Final Blog Post

This class has taught me a lot that I didn’t know before. It taught me how to work individually and as a group. The first day of class, I remember I looked confused because I didn’t know that this type of class would be with different grades. The first person I saw was Brooklyn, and I was wondering if this was the right class. Being shy was what I needed to work on, and that is what exactly  happened by the end of this semester. I learned how to perform with other people. Now that the semester is ending I am comfortable with working with everyone in my class, and became good friends with them all. Learning how to do a sonalogue and doing a scene from The Office, taught me different things. The Office scene was very well written for my group, and we enjoyed working with each other.

My final project is a dance with myself, Brooklyn, and Hannah. This shows how we all used to dance and shows what we are good at as a performer. From this experience, I have learned how Hannah and Brooklyn perform. I feel like on this final project my group has learned more of my style of dance. We also feel more comfortable performing in front of our class then we were in the beginning of the year.

Final Project

For my final project, my group decided to do a ballet dance. All of us have danced before and ballet is one of our strengths. The song that I will be dancing to is angry bird. We all are doing different emotions and a different type of dance that showcase our strengths. My song mostly has jumps and light movements. I feel like each dance expresses how we feel and the acting that we are doing for our dance. The dances are going to be very different from one another to showcase our talents. My group is myself, Hannah, and Brooklyn and we have all danced before for a long time. This project will help us get into character. By the end of our dance, we are all going to come and have maybe a couple eight counts together. For my part, I am going to be also the more flexible one than Hannah and Brooklyn. I feel like we are going to struggle working with the dances as the group because we have never danced together and we don’t know how we dance together. For my dance since I am angry fire bird I will be wearing red to showcase that I am the angry one. Brooklyn is sad so she is wearing cool colors. Hannah is the happy one so she is wearing pastel colors. We all need to show our emotion of our character. We chose these characters by flexibility and acting. We all thought the dancing experience and the acting will be the best for our dance. All of these ideas we have now will just build from here as class goes on. We are going to try to make it as clean as we can. It is important to work together because if we don’t it won’t get done very well, and we are good at that because we all get along very well.

Strengths and Weaknesses

Strengths:
  • Jordan improving every time we do a scene to make it better
  • Remembering all of our lines and sometimes improvising if we forget
  • Everyone doing what they were supposed to
  • Getting to work as fast as we could
  • Working together as a group and getting along
  • Making our character our own and not copying our scene that we used
  • Getting it done early so we have time to make some changes
  • Having everyone do something in our scene
  • When we mess up everyone just makes a joke out of it, but isn’t mean to the person that messed up
  • Have bloopers to add to our scene
  • Trying new things in our scene and being accepting in it
  • Was a success in our scene last Friday, and was really funny
  • Finding the right character for the person
  • Including everyone to be something

Weaknesses:

  • Laughing when I look at Jordan
  • Not remembering my lines sooner
  • Having my phone in my hand when I did know them
  • Not staying in character to try to tell someone they did something wrong
  • We kept on laughing when trying to do our scene
  • We would get off track some of the time
  • Sometimes we wouldn’t listen to the director.
  • We would fool around a lot
  • We would have to do the scene a bunch of times because sometimes we would mess something up or start laughing (mostly laughing).
  • Wouldn’t listen to someone’s ideas if we don’t agree
  • Yell at each other if we mess up sometimes
  • I would look at Jordan and start laughing because of how his character acts

Fall Play Review

I did like the seeing the play last week. I had friends in the play that I never knew could act the way they did. I feel like the director’s vision was to keep it simple and have the students improve on some of their movement. I heard that the actors did improve some of their movements because it would be hard to remember everything. I feel like the director wanted the students to act how they thought the character would act.
The acting on some of the characters were surprisingly good. The character that ate a lot during the play was very good. He was funny, and entertaining to watch. I feel like everyone did such a great job, and made the character there own. Everyone put there little spin to the characters. I feel like the characters were very well casted and couldn’t have been any different.
The lighting was very bright in the play and could have been a little darker when the characters were in the house. When they were all outside, it still could have been a little less bright. I feel like some characters should have had microphones because I could not hear some words that they were trying to pronounce. The lighting could have also switched up a little bit, and be a little dimmer at one point, and brighter at another.
The set design was very creative because even though the play was taken place at the time 1895, the props fit the scenes very well. The set design was very unique and organized. I feel like every prop fit the scene very well
Strengths:
  • Acting the character
  • Making there character there own
  • Talking slowly
  • Making it flow
  • Not just saying line, after line, after line

Weaknesses:

  • Pronouncing the words fully
  • Looking at the audience when talking to another person
  • Starts out strong in a sentence and then starts to get softer
  • Mumbles some of the time

Director scene

Scene I want to direct: Friends scene “How you doin”
Characters: 4 people

Joey would be flirting with another girl, and everyone yells at him, and pushes him out of the room.

This scene would be good for this class because most people have seen Friends and it will be really fun to act.

My Director View

As a director, I would stage City of Stars in the black box, where the actor is the only one on stage. The actor would pretend she is outside at night, with a spotlight on her. She is somewhere silent in a small town in front of a fancy restaurant. It would also be drizzling and she would be talking to the sky. By the end of the scene, in front of the restaurant there is a bench and she sits down very slowly, and then has her head down.

Directing Videos

Elizabeth Williamson Discusses Henry V:

  • Henry V was written in 1599
  • Tells a story about history back then
  • When Henry becomes king he needs to make sure he is in charge
  • Henry decides to go to war
  • To know who is impacted on your decision is incredibly timeless

From Script to Stage: The Director's Concept:

  • Students speaking the casual language of the 1890s but once they get to the rock songs they are going to be singing like teens today
  • The show is timeless when the students act it out
  • Spring Awakening is the new rock video
  • Takes an old take on a play

A Director’s Interpretation: The Comedy of Errors:

  • The idea of being estranged from who you are and being an outsider in the play
  • Shakespeare can be in so many different world
  • Dominick wanted a vibrant look for the production
  • Setting it in London
  • Anchor the play in something true
  • Shakespeare makes sense when your in the moment
  • You can’t define the play forever

Final Draft scenes reflection

  1. In our performance, my job was the lights. I have never done lights but it was very easy. I just had to turn the lights up after the rain, and wait for our scene to start, and after it was done, I turned the lights off for a blackout. I learned how to work the lights and I enjoyed doing the lights . I also learned how to work with a group and work efficiently so we were not stressing.
  2. Our group worked very well together, and we got our scene done before anyone else. Our strengths were working well together and splitting everything up so everyone is working on something in the group. Our challenges were memorization and staying on the same page. Our weaknesses were making sure we finished everything and finding rain for our scene.
  3. I feel like “what’s wrong with me”n was one of the best because they worked well together and the acting and the guitar in the back room fit the scene very well. Jeffs group got it done, but before there final scene they struggled a lot and had to stop. I feel like Jess needed to project a little more because she was kind of quite in the scene.

Blog post

The sonalogue that really stood out to me was Mals sonalogue when she chose, “tell me what’s wrong with me.” It was very powerful. The first element that I would choose is lighting. I would have the lights not too bright, but not too dark. It would be dim, and the lights may be blue depending how she is presenting it. The lighting would have to need intensity, color, direction, and movement to influence the four functions of stage lighting, such as, mood, selective focus, modeling, and visibility. Mal would need a spot light so she is also the main focus. It is very important because it sets the mood of the scene.
The second element she would need is costume. Costuming is very important because it can set the mood of the scene, just like the lighting. Her costume should look like she was trying to find the best outfit she could possibly find. Her hair should look straightened, and looks like she just had it done. The costume should also fit the design of the stage so it won’t look off balance. Costume is very important because without costume the whole scene would look off because the scene that she is talking about is about how she looks, and if she has sweatpants on, it will look off.

The last element would have to be set design because without a set, the scene wouldn’t have the same purpose. I would think the set design should have very few props because we don’t want to take the mood away from the actor. I think the set should maybe have a couch in case she wants to sit down in her scene for her blocking. It is very important to not have too many props because if you have too many props it could take away from the actor.

What I thought:

I feel that my performance could've been better. I should have practiced more and I feel like that would help. My strengths was improving every time I practiced my sonalogue. My emotion on different lines that I say change through the sonalogue. My weaknesses are remembering my lines because sometimes I would forget what came next. I also need to work on looking up more in my performance, and my blocking because sometimes I don’t know what I should have done for my blocking in my performance.
I am satisfied with how confident I was performing in front of everyone. I usually have a tough time doing that, but I have became a lot more comfortable with performing in front of people. I liked how even though I had a short amount of time, I still performed my piece like I was saying it, and not like a song. My performance was maybe the best I could have done it in a short amount of time. If I had more time maybe it could have been better, but with having only a week think I did well for my sonalogue.
If I had more time I would think about changing my song to an easier song to act out. If I couldn’t do that I would’ve prepared myself more to perform. It was hard to act out my performance to make sense. It would’ve been better if I changed the lyrics a little bit more than I already did. What also would’ve helped is memorizing my sonalogue and not just saying words that just pop into my head. It was hard to act out a performance that have talking in the song other than just the song. I had to cut the speaking part out, and not make it as long.

My audience, of what I saw was they looked very focused. I saw that I can tell they liked my final performance the best because they all were engaged and not looking down at something, or writing down something for there performance. It was a lot of fun acting a song in front of my peers at school because it taught me to be more comfortable with everyone in the class. I felt more calm and comfortable performing with my song because it was really hard at first to act out a Beauty and the Beast song that also had talking. Overall, I think my performance went very well, and my audience interacted with me as we

Sonalogue

Little town
It's a quiet village
Every day
Like the one before
Little town
Full of little people
Waking up to say

There goes the baker with his tray, like always
The same old bread and rolls to sell
Every morning just the same
Since the morning that we came
To this poor provincial town
Good morning, Belle
Good morning, monsieur Jean
Have you lost something again?

Oh, isn't this amazing?
It's my favorite part because you'll see
Here's where she meets Prince Charming
But she won't discover that it's him 'til chapter three!

I'm nothing like the rest of them
Yes, different from the rest of them

There must be more than this provincial life!

It's a pity and a sin
I doesn't quite fit in

I really am different from the rest of them
Yes, different from the rest of them

Sonalogue

I worked on practicing my sonalogue in front of my partners for 10 minutes. I learned what I am cutting, and what I am keeping. My sonalogue is going to be a lot shorter from the original version. I need to practice on my acting and memorizing the lyrics of what is coming next because I am cutting a lot out. I know what I’m cutting, I just got to work on having it ready for Friday.I worked on practicing my sonalogue in front of my partners for 10 minutes. Questions

1. Who am I?
My character is Belle from Beauty and the Beast. She is 18 and wants to leave the town she is from. She just has a dad who is trying to make it as an inventor. She loves to read and feels like that she isn’t respected. Her hobbies are reading, and her dislikes is Gaston. She is afraid of losing her dad.
2. What time is it?
The year is in the 1900s because there wasn’t any electronics and you had to wash your own laundry. The season was the middle of end of fall, beginning of winter. It is when Belle meets the Beast.
3. Where am I?
She lives in a little town in a village. There aren’t many houses where she lives, and the houses were very small.
4. What surrounds me?
Belle is loved my Gaston, but she doesn’t love him back. The weather is kind of cold and the people aren’t very nice. The end of the movie, the villagers want to go kill the Beast because of his looks.
5. What are the given circumstances?
Belle doesn’t have a mother, and her dad wants to be an inventor to have Belle go to college and have a good life. Belle’s dad for the inventors fair took a wrong turn and got caught by the Beast, and was captured. Belle ends up taking his spot in the castle, and they end up falling in love.
6. What are my relationships?
Belle has a great relationship with her father, and not a very good relationship with Gaston. She loves reading books as well, and she also wears the same outfit every day. So that might be special to her as well.

One of the main characters Gaston is in the way of Belle loving the Beast because at the end Gaston tried to kill the Beast, and Belle just made it in time to save Beast
What are the obstacles to getting what you want?

Belle save Beast by going back to save him. But before that, she took her father's place in the jail at Beast's castle before she really new who he was.

Song: Belle- Beauty and the Beast
Artist: Belle
Link: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=tTUZswZHsWQ&t=4s
Lyrics:
 Little town
It's a quiet village
Every day
Like the one before
Little town
Full of little people
Waking up to say

Bonjour bonjour
Bonjour bonjour bonjour

There goes the baker with his tray, like always
The same old bread and rolls to sell
Every morning just the same
Since the morning that we came
To this poor provincial town
Good morning, Belle
Good morning, monsieur Jean
Have you lost something again?

Well, I believe I have
Problem is, I've, I can't remember what
Oh well, I'm sure it'll come to me
Where you off to?

To return this book to Pere Robert, it's about to lovers in fair Verona
Sound boring

Look there she goes, that girl is strange, no question
Dazed and distracted, can't you tell?

Never part of any crowd
'Cause her head's up on some cloud
No denying she's a funny girl that Belle

Bonjour, good day
How is your family?
Bonjour, good day
How is your wife?
I need six eggs
That's too expensive!
There must be more than this provincial life!

Ah, If it isn't the only bookworm in town!
So, where did you run off to this week?

Two cities in Northern Italy
I didn't want to come back
Have you got any new places to go?

I'm afraid not
But you may re-read any of the old ones that you'd like
Your library makes our small corner of the world feel big

Bon voyage

Look there she goes, that girl is so peculiar
I wonder if she's feeling well
With a dreamy, far-off look
And her nose stuck in a book
What a puzzle to the rest of us is Belle

Oh, isn't this amazing?
It's my favorite part because you'll see
Here's where she meets Prince Charming
But she won't discover that it's him 'til chapter three!

Now it's no wonder that her name means Beauty
Her looks have got no parallel

But behind that fair facade
I'm afraid she's rather odd
Very different from the rest of us

She's nothing like the rest of us
Yes, different from the rest of us is Belle!

Look at her, LeFou
My future wife
Belle is the most beautiful girl in the village
That's makes her the best

But she's so well-read
And you're so athletically-inclined

Yes, ever since the war, I felt like I've been missing something
She's the only girl that ever given me that sense of

Mmm je ne sais quoi?

I don't know what that means

Right from the moment when I met her, saw her
I said she's gorgeous and I fell
Here in town there's only she
Who is beautiful as me
So I'm making plans to woo and marry Belle

Look there he goes
Isn't he dreamy?
Monsieur Gaston
Oh, he's so cute!
Be still my heart
I'm hardly breathing
He's such a tall, dark, strong and handsome brute!

Bonjour, pardon
Good day, mais oui!
You call this bacon, what lovely flowers
Some cheese, ten yards, one pound, excuse me I'll get the knife
Please let me through!
This bread, those fish, it's stale, they smell!
Madame's mistaken Well, maybe so

There must be more than this provincial life!

Just watch, I'm going to make Belle my wife!

Look there she goes the girl is strange, but special
A most peculiar mademoiselle!

It's a pity and a sin
She doesn't quite fit in

'Cause she really is a funny girl
A beauty but a funny girl
She really is a funny girl
That Belle
